With many fans getting revved up and excited to watch their teams either dominate the regular season or make an unexpected run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there are also many other fans looking for a distraction from their team’s predicted abysmal season. For the later mentioned fans, as well as anyone else interested, I have constructed this list of exciting storylines to watch this season:

The Cinderella Stories of 2015 Goalies

By:

Like any other year in the NHL, there have been many surprises in the 2014-15 NHL season. Blockbuster trades take place, teams take unexpected dive bombs after what seemed like a promising season, and season ending injuries take huge blows to a contending team. However, the biggest surprises of this season has been the prevalence of lesser goalies unexpectedly turning a team’s season around. These are some of the goalie Cinderella stories of this season.

Goalies: Does being an Angry Goalie help?

By:

We’ve all been there, we’ve had that frustration. You’re getting scored on repeatedly and nobody is doing anything. The ref blows a huge call. It’s been building and building all game, and by the 4th or 5th goal, you can’t take it anymore! You have a goalie outburst! Sometimes it just cant be helped, some of us goalies are not so zen between the pipes. I know myself personally I have had a very bad tendency for frustration in the net. I come out on the ice as a goalie to have a good fun game, where everyone takes part, and sometimes when things get out of hand, I don’t like it so much. Us as the goalies however don’t come out to be embarrassed, or made fun of, and when the score starts getting pretty high, that’s what it can feel like.

NHL Playoffs 2015: NHL Goalies of current contenders

The season is more than halfway over. We’ve finished the All-star game and with the trade deadline being the only major event left, it won’t be long until we’re getting into the playoffs. We’ll be seeing huge hits, shot blocks, and my favorite; desperation saves. However, who will be making these desperation saves this year? As it stands, before trade deadline, the match ups are quite interesting. We may be in for the lowest scoring playoffs in years with so many good net minders making appearances this year, I’m sure of this for many reasons.

Goalie Skates: It’s in the cut

Recently, I’ve done articles on some important goalie equipment, specifically on pads and masks for us goaltenders. These pieces of equipment are extremely important, as was previously mentioned, but they are also some of the more visually pleasing or iconic parts of a goalie’s set up. But what about the equipment that’s barely seen? Is it arguably less important than the rest of a goalies gear? Some pieces, perhaps, but under those pads are likely one of the most important, and personal pieces of equipment for a goalie. His skates!

Goalies: The Goalie Mask

By:

The goalie mask is a pretty well-known piece of equipment, not even among us goalies or hockey fans, but pretty much everyone knows this iconic symbol of the ice hockey goaltender. Of course this has even more meaning now, breaking it down to personal knowledge of the goalie, as customization has gone crazy. From types, shapes, strapping, protection and paint jobs, almost no mask is the same anymore.

Goalies: How the Colour of Goalie Pads Matters

By:
Different Colors of Goalie Pads

A goalie’s equipment is a somewhat personal matter. We all take pride on some sort of level with the gear that we own. It’s ours, we wear it constantly, and so much of it can reflect how we play as well as our personality. Some pads may be outgoing and flashy, while others conservative and utility based, but the decision between these two choices can all be reflected in the choice of colours for your pads.

NHL Goalies: Arizona Coyotes

Hello everyone, back again for another week of Goalie Talk! We’re quite a bit into the regular season now in the NHL, and goaltending positions are starting to sort out now. Around this time teams should have figured out who their number one is (for the time being of course), as well as their number two. This year seems to be pretty steady and pretty predictable for goaltending, as most probable starters have their position locked up, with not many surprises. Last week I talked about the Anaheim Ducks and how their goaltending situation is, concluding that Frederik Andersen seems pretty secure for the starting position. As we reach the early-mid season of play, things should be getting very steady in terms of starting goalies, without accounting for any unfortunate injuries. The next team to be discussed is a team that has always had trouble with goaltending, but lately it hasn’t really been a question who has the number one spot.

NHL Goalies: The Anaheim Ducks

Where has the time gone? The start of the NHL season has already passed, and the competition is just starting to heat up amongst teams. That being said, with the season at an early stage, there is even more competition between players bidding for longer ice time and starting positions. Some of the largest competition will likely be between the starting and backup goalies. Many times the beginning of the season is a clean slate and any goalie can get the number one spot. At this point in time many teams are flip-flopping between their probable starter, backup, and bringing up call-ups from the minors. This is either for an early rest for the starter, or to see what the future holds for the team. With all this confusion going on between the pipes, I thought it would be a great time of the year to do a weekly “review” or spotlight for a team to shed some light on their goalie situations in the past, present, and future.

Goalies: Moving forward…with style.

Hockey as a whole has come a long way from what we all remember, hasn’t it? Rule changes, lockouts, technology and equipment have all served as catalysts to change the game into a faster, and more intense sport. Due to this, the players have also been forced to change how they play. Even for younger talents, it has forced them to learn differently, or at least learn something they never have been taught or seen before.
