Exciting Storylines for the 2015-16 NHL Season

114 days later, here we are at the start of the 2015-16 NHL season. Feels good, doesn’t it? With many fans getting revved up and excited to watch their teams either dominate the regular season or make an unexpected run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there are also many other fans looking for a distraction from their team’s predicted abysmal season. Coming off one of the most exhilarating NHL playoff pushes in recent memory, I am relieved to say that it is finally time for fans to catch their breath. The race is over at last, and the battle is about to begin! The Cinderella Stories of 2015 Goalies

Like any other year in the NHL, there have been many surprises in the 2014-15 NHL season. Blockbuster trades take place, teams take unexpected dive bombs after what seemed like a promising season, and season ending injuries take huge blows to a contending team. However, the biggest surprises of this season has been the prevalence of lesser goalies unexpectedly turning a team’s season around. These are some of the goalie Cinderella stories of this season.

A Closer Look At: Winning and Losing Streaks

On Tuesday November 18, 2014 the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Nashville Predators 9-2.  I know this because I live in the GTA.  The next day, the sports media in the area was almost unlistenable.  “Carlyle likely to be fired after this weekend.” “Carlyle has lost the room.”  “What kind of Captain is Phaneuf?” yadda….yadda…yadda.  Admittedly losing 9-2 to any team in hockey is an embarrassing situation.  One of the more common idioms for a blowout of that sort is that the team, “lost by a touchdown.”  It was a fantastic loss in every sense, but one without the benefit of a crystal ball.  If anyone would have known then what they know now, would anyone have really been so upset.  As of Sunday December 14, 2014, the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the hottest winning streak in the NHL at 8-1-1.  Funny how a month changes things.
